"I can't believe I get to work at the castle! This is so exciting!" You said as you walked through the halls, following a maid that was taking you to your work area.

"Don't get to excited. Who knows how long you'll last with what you get to do." The maid replied.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that your job is very dangerous. You are the new caretaker for the dragons that we have here at the castle."

"Oh wow! I think I can handle it!"

The maid laughed and replied, "Good to see that you think so positive."

You smiled brightly at the maid. You both arrived on the roof in front of what looked to be a huge version of a stable. She opened the door and handed you a key. As the door opened, you could hear roars of all kinds. What you saw was amazing in your opinion. There were dragons of all shapes and sizes, but a certain one caught your eye. It was a huge black dragon with a scar running across it's left eye and three huge scratch marks on it's right side. Three knights were trying to keep it down. You ran over to them and said, "Stop! Let me try something!" They looked hesitant, but stopped anyway.

You slowly walked towards the dragon. It was surprisingly calm as you stepped forwards. You stopped a few feet away from it and raised your hand towards it. The large flying beast slowly stepped forward and put it's snout against your hand. You smiled brightly as it let you pet it. It breathed out of it's nose, blowing some smoke out in the process. The knights left and the maid tapped on your shoulder to get your attention. As you looked at her she began to explain what you were expected to do.

"You must feed them all once a day, polish their scales, and clean up after them. You have a few privileges to being their caretaker. You may ride them anytime you want, you have the choice of sleeping under this place in a room. Which has a lot of warmth because of the heat radiating off of their scales. You can also come and go as you please. And I mean the kingdom, not just this place."

You nodded and went back to petting the black dragon. When she left, a light appeared around your body. The dragon in front of you bowed it's head. When the light disappeared, you were dumbfounded. Then you heard a female voice say, "I have blessed you with the ability to hear us, human." You looked at the dragon with a questioning look. "Did you just talk?"

"Yes I did." She replied.

"Why did you give that pathetic human the power to hear us Hollie!?" Said a huge sapphire blue male dragon. It was chained to the wall and it was laying beside you two.

"Because, Lukas! She deserved it! Besides it's not like I gave her the ability to turn into one of us." Said the black dragon who was supposedly named Hollie.

"But still! She's nothing but a pathetic little human!" That did it. Hollie hit him with her tail and scratched him on the left side of his neck, deep enough for it to bleed.

"For a dragon who was kicked out of his home, you still talk like your all high and mighty! You're such a kid Lukas! For Dragana's* sake act your age! You are six centuries old!"

"You shouldn't be talking. You are six and a half centuries old and you still act like a kid!" You stared at the two wondering if you should stop them or not.

"Well at least I'm nicer than you! And at least I'm giving her a chance! Unli-" All of a sudden, Hollie dropped to the ground.

Lukas stared at her, wide eyed. "Hollie! Come on! Hollie! Get up! This isn't funny!" The sapphire dragon pushed the female with his snout. Hollie began to become smaller and smaller. She stopped when she got to be the size of your hand. Oh no... You thought as Lukas looked at you with hatred in his eyes. He opened his mouth and you could see the smoke coming from it. He was about to do something that you wished more than anything right now that it would not happen. He was going to breath fire at you.
